Act. 4.2.b - Implementation of composting techniques in the Region 1 – North-East. Examples from Galicia. Awareness campaigns. Awareness in schools
From the 10th to the 13th of february 2009 took place the second seminar related to the management of biodegradable waste in the North-East Region through different composting approaches. In this occasion 2 experts on composting came, Mr. Adrie Veeken, from Holland, and Mr. Domingo Pérez, from Spain.
On the 10th they held a conference with the presence of 43 representatives of Region North-East from REPA, LEPAs, NEG, County Councils, municipalities, and the University of Bacau, presenting and discussing the following topics:
- Introduction to composting: EU policy, part of integrated waste management, examples in other EU countries, principles of composting, composting technologies
- Implementation of home composting in rural areas: experiences and lessons from Spain.
- Composting in rural areas: closing the nutrient and organic matter cycles by home composting and farm-scale composting
- Current situation regarding composting approaches in the North-East Region: Piatra Neamt case
- Discussion in groups: problems and solutions to optimise the management of biodegradable waste in the North-East Region
Apart from this conference, two meetings were held, one with representatives from NGOs of Bacau County, and another with representatives from the PIU of the municipality of Bacau, plus a training course delivered to school teachers who are or will be involved in environmental awareness activities in their schools based on the theory and practice of composting.
