Act. 4.2.c - Implementation of composting techniques in the Region 1 – North-East. Awareness campaigns. Awareness in schools. 2nd seminar & supporting materials.

The second seminar focussed on how to implement home composting in the Region 1 – North-east of Romania, as well as related awareness campaigns, and school awareness programmes, took place from the 11th to the 18th of may of 2009.

Mr. Adrie Veeken and Mr. Herman Huisman prepared some supporting materials, and hold a series of meetings with all groups of stakeholders involved in these topics (total of 84 participants): representatives from the Ministry of Environment, NEPA, REPA, LEPAs, NEG, NGOs, municipalities, waste management operators, school inspectorates and schools discussed about:

-          Technical alternatives to implement home and community composting in cities, towns and villages.

-          Importance of awareness campaigns to implement home and community composting, as well as selective collection. Presentation of supporting materials prepared by the Twinning project.

-          Key aspects to make good quality compost.

-          Promotion of environmental awareness programmes in schools, based on composting theory and practice. Presentation of supporting materials prepared by the Twinning project. Role of schools in spreading awareness to promote composting.
